PROJECT: 103 Park Street
LOCATION: Lewiston, Maine
CLIENT: Robert A. Laskoff
SERVICES: Architect - Engineer - Construction Manager
Platz Associates was hired to
rehabilitate and renovate the old Knights of Columbus building on Park Street in Lewiston,
Maine, into the law offices of Robert Laskoff. The project required the complete
rehabilitation of the outside of the building to return it to its original character and
charm. The program for the interior of the thirteen thousand square foot building was to
house a medium size law firm.
In order to satisfy the demanding program
requirements, it was necessary to gut the entire interior of the structure. New electrical
and mechanical systems as well as structural upgrades were required to accommodate the new
building use. The renovated building now meets all current building codes and handicapped
accessibility requirements. Wherever possible close attention was paid to details which
would capture the original architecture and flavor of the building. Existing rough struck
masonry walls were preserved and used as elements to enhance the design. In one instance
an original brass skylight was removed, refurbished and transformed into a legal reference
table. Our client allowed us the opportunity to make extensive use of natural woods and
fine craftsmanship to produce a truly stunning architectural solution.
Platz Associates was proud to be a part of this
revitalization of downtown Lewiston, Maine. As architects, engineers and construction
managers of this project, we believe it to be another fine example of the depth of
services our firm brings to a project.
