Platz Associates provided full architectural and interior design services for the new home of the Lewiston Police Department. Located in Bates Mill No.7, the project was part of the continued effort to revitalize the Bates Mill Complex. The design process started in 2022 and the project broke ground in mid 2023. Police departments are considered essential facilities and are required to remain operational during disasters: because of this, lateral bracing was added to the existing structure of the mill. The new steel brace frames were celebrated in the design and were all left visible to go along with the exposed wood and masonry structure. Additionally, interior design choices like furniture, fixtures, and lighting were part of the teams design process. Along with the needs of Lewiston Police Department, the station holds MDEA, FBI, and Homeland Security in the 50,000 SF facility. The project also included the renovation of the neighboring parking structure to accommodate the departments vehicular needs. Officers officially moved into the building in April, 2025..
